China, Indonesia and ASEAN – GIMAF Update March 2019

China, Indonesia and ASEAN were the key topics were discussed in GIMAF Update March 2019, with key messages for barley growers ahead of the 2019 season.

GIMAF was active in China and Indonesia during March 2019, along with a visit to the GIWA Barley Autumn Forum in Perth. Barley was dominating the trade discussion space, however the strongly positive development in Indonesia was the signing of the Indonesia-Australia Comprehensive Economic Partnership Agreement (IA-CEPA) on 4 March.

GIMAF Update February 2019

The GIMAF Forum met in Canberra on 6 February, with China the principal topic for discussion – exploring the future and how to manage challenges for this market.

In addition to China the Forum discussed progress on the Indonesia-Australia Comprehensive Economic Partnership Agreement (IA-CEPA) and ongoing challenges for pulse exports to India.

A GIMAF delegation to China in September 2018 heard how continued growth in feed demand was using up corn stocks and creating opportunities to explore new imports such as Australian lupins for stockfeed. Numerous meetings with government officials and trade sources combined for a strongly positive visit. The GIMAF Forum on 9 October received a report on China, as well as discussing Indonesia, India, prospects for grain imports and many other topics, all of which are covered in GIMAF Update October 2018.

Industry Management Plan – Doing well, keep going

Doing well, keep going. That would be the bottom-line message arising from this year’s review of the Industry Management Plan (IMP) that was developed to support the Australia-China Wheat and Barley Protocol for the supply of Australian wheat and barley to China.

China, India, Indonesia and Pakistan were on the agenda when the GIMAF Forum met in Canberra on 10 July, along with discussion about non-tariff measures and maximum residue limits, all of which are covered in GIMAF July 2018 Forum Outcomes.
